PHOENIX BLOOMS
Wildflower & Ash

One year after the Black Summer fires that devastated Kangaroo Island I return.

It is Spring and wildflowers skirt the blackened tree trunks, clothing them in vibrant colour.

Draping the flora, a soft petticoat of charcoal and ash,

Like the Phoenix leaf bloom on charcoal Mallee stumps I gathered in March 2020 only weeks after the inferno, I have arranged the blossoms in vases - images of renewal.

Upside down, but still rooted in the ground, the floral arrangements change perspective, flip and float alternatively relaxing and teasing the eye.

An unstill life.
